True Steps of Conception

The facts...

Conception isn’t just a simple event—it involves several stages, each important in ensuring a successful pregnancy.  Here’s just a little information about each event to give you an idea of how it all works...

Ovulation: The release of an egg from the ovary, known as ovulation, typically occurs around the middle of a regular menstrual cycle (around day 14 of a 28-day cycle). This is your fertile window, the best time for conception.

Sexual Intercourse and Fertilization: During unprotected sex, sperm cells are ejaculated into the female reproductive tract.

Fertilization: If sperm cells are present in the fallopian tube when the egg is released, fertilization can occur. A single sperm penetrates the egg, combining to form a zygote.

Travel to the Uterus: The fertilized egg, now called an embryo, travels down the fallopian tube towards the uterus. This journey takes about 3-4 days.

Implantation: The embryo reaches the uterus and attaches itself to the uterine lining, or the wall of the uterus. This is known as implantation and typically occurs 6-10 days after ovulation.
